Hemi, Mopar and their 9 babies!

On a Friday I received a phone call about a rescue situation down south for a deaf white male and a plain bitch.  They had been put in kennels at the local vet and the owner had not come back for them.   When the owner was contacted they didn't want to pay the boarding fee of approx $600 so surrendered the dogs to the local pound.  The rescue would need very quick action as the bitch was heavily pregnant and they didn't know when she was due to have the puppies.  Unfortunately the person who does all the rescues in Perth was out of the country on holiday so I said I would take Hemi.  I didn't take the while male who is the father of the babies as I didn't have the room but made a lot of calls trying to find him somewhere to go.

Hemi arrived at my house on the Monday night and was very pregnant, enough to make me think oooohhh anytime now!  Hemi was thin and needed a good feed but she was in good spirits, very loving and fitted into our house straight away.  Ally and Hemi fell in love with each other.

Mopar was due to be euthanised on the Wednesday and on Wednesday morning I received a call that someone would take him...YAY!!  Mopar came to me on the Wednesday night, a complete bag of bones...it was just awful.  I was crying as I took him to my dads who was going to take care of him until the weekend.  My dad has Austen a 4 year old in tact male, I was a bit apprehensive about putting the boys together but I didn't need to worry, I think they were more in love with each other than Hemi and Ally!!  Unfortunately the home wasn't suitable for Mopar but at least he was out of the kennels.  Luckily my dad kept Mopar for 10 days until a wonderful home was found for him.  The difference in Mopar in 10 days was outstanding, he was unrecognisable as the bag of bones I had picked up over a week ago.  Mopar had severe tail damage from being in the pound so once he had settled into his new home he was desexed and had his damaged tail removed and is a very happy dog!  His new owners have taught him sign language and he had picked it up very quickly, they love him to bits!

We played a waiting game with Hemi, I took her to the vets for an ultrasound on the Thursday after she came to me and the vet wasn't even able to give me an idea of how many were in there as she was big and very close they thought to having them.  Well she held on for nearly another week and starting to have the babies the following Wednesday morning.  Hemi was an absolute machine, she only gave me one hour of panting as a warning before she had her first baby, a flashy boy.  She had all 9 babies within 5 hours and no complications at all.  She had 5 boys and 4 girls.  They were called by me Paddy, Teddy, Finn, Ziggy, Dudley, Star, Eve, Dot and Micra.

The "person" who mated Hemi to Mopar must have had some idea of colour genetics seeing as Hemi is genetically plain.  With Mopar being white I knew all the puppies were going to be flashy red and white, big money making litter.  Hemi was about 2 and a half when she came to me and to take a guess I would think this was her 3rd or 4th litter, the poor thing has been used as a puppy farm her whole life.

Hemi is now in a wonderful home and being spoilt rotten!!  All her babies are doing fantastically and have the most outstanding temperaments and are with wonderful families!!  All puppies were sold in sterilisation contracts and their new family will be given $100 cash back upon proof of sterilisation.  Any profits from this litter were donated to the Boxer Rescue fund.

To all the other Boxer breeders out there, do you know where all your puppies are?  Are they sold on limited registration?  Hemi and Mopar both have pedigree dogs behind them, they had to come from somewhere, I would love to find out where!  Even with the best of intentions I know you can never be 100% sure that puppies go to the "right" homes but giving sterilisation incentives and making it impossible for people to breed registered litters from our puppies is at least a start and a good one at that.
